Dear First Grade Families,
This week is a short week due to Labor Day on Monday. We will have class as usual with one day less of each subject. Please remember to talk to your kids about bullying. Bullying is teasing, hitting, kicking, taking other’s things, etc. It will not be tolerated. Encourage your child to tell an adult if they are being bullied. We can’t help them if we don’t know it is happening. Let’s all work together to keep all children happy and safe at school.
Half of the class is doing their spelling homework and reading logs. Please help your child practice their words with daily spelling homework. Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. Keep up with completing math sheets also.
This week we are practicing letter sounds as well as working on comprehension as we listen to Rotten Teeth in SFA Reading. We are learning about chunking words and compound words. In Science we are learning about gravel, pebbles, cobbles, and boulders and will learn how to use a sifter. In Social Studies we are learning about community rules, why we have them and the National Anthem of the U.S. We will create posters that illustrate our school rules. In Math we are learning about 2 dimensional shapes, their attributes, and how to sort them. In writing we will make a 4 square as a partner to write a partner narrative.
