Dear First Grade Parents,
This week, we will continue a new SFA Phonics program called Word Power about chunking and continue the 2nd Grade SFA Reading Program called Wings. We will revise, edit, and do the final copy of a second literary response to compare two books. In Math, we will begin Unit 10 with reviewing telling time, counting money and money story problems, and place value. We will do the part of the motion part of our Unit on Balance and Motion.
We need all the permission slips returned as well as the $2.00 for the field trip by Friday. I am still planning for drivers for the trip until I hear differently from the director. Please send in copies of your driver’s license and car insurance if you want to drive. I am looking forward to this trip.
We are in desperate need of Kleenex Tissue boxes. We also need hand sanitizer. Thank you to those who donated snacks. We will need some more to get us through until the last week of school in May. Wide ruled lined paper is also something we use daily.
Homework this week will be a Math worksheet each night, and reading for 20 minutes. An adult needs to sign the student’s reading log each day to show that they read each day after school. It needs to be turned in Thursday. There will be homework of Spelling five times each word on Monday, each word in a sentence on Tuesday, ABC order for Wednesday, a practice spelling test for Thursday. Spelling test is on Friday.
Spelling Words: Bonus Words:

Students still receive a daily reward for attending school and being on time. They also receive a daily reward for doing their homework: math, and spelling are required. We want your children to have the best opportunity to learn. They can only learn if they attend school. Thank you for helping me teach your children affectively.
All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless they are ill or a family emergency arises. If you know that your child is going to be absent/tardy, please call the office at 807-9668. If your child is absent for a total of 18 days, consecutive or nonconsecutive, excused or unexcused it is seen as truant and excessive. AAL reports all students with excessive absences to the Pima County Attorney’s truancy office. For more information about truancy, visit http://www.pcao.pima.gov/actnow.htm
Thank you,
